How to find the right tool for your defective USB

1. The very first step in determining if your USB Drive is fixable is to check if it is still detected in your PC. It will be easier to determine it with the use of the latest CHIPGENIUS. (Click here to download)

After downloading it, extract it to desktop and double-click the application. CHIPGENIUS icon looks like this: (Be sure to run it as administrator if you are running Win7.)

2. Plugin your defective USB Drive in order for the program to detect its hardware information. (Be sure to plugin 1 USB drive 1 at a time so not to mix up the corresponding tools to be used.)
CHIPGENIUS window will show all devices connected to your PC's USB ports. Be sure to select the right USB drive from the list of devices.

3. Take note of the detailed information displayed by CHIPGENIUS. The most important details to list down are the:
a. Chip Vendor - lists the utility for the USB Drive.
b. Chip Part-Number - lists the CPU chip used in your USB Drive.
c. Flash ID Code - lists the Flash chip used in your USB Drive.
d. USB Device ID - consists of two IDS: VID - Vendor ID & PID - Product ID.

4. Search for the Chip Part-Number from the corresponding Chip Vendor Download Page and download the right tool. Sometimes there will be a number of tools that will appear in a single search so you will have to do a trial-&-error method, start from the first tool until you find the right one which will fix your USB Drive.

    I have a problem that's similar to this. Sometimes, my laptop can't read my flash drive anymore. I thought it was already corrupted or perhaps, I forgot to eject it properly. But, I hope that your article will solve the issue that I have. I don't want to buy another flash drive!

    I tried one of the utilities from this blog to revamp a HipStreet flash drive with an SMI Controller. I actually thought the drive was gone for good but the program worked and brought it back to life. I also have another drive, Corsair, that jumped ship in a huge data transfer. The only problem is I have had the Corsair forever and have alot of data on it that I need to keep. When I ran the program to fix the HipStreet drive it formatted the drive. Is there a way I can run a fix on the Corsair and it not format? I have data I can't afford to lose on it. This mess is really testing my trust in flash drives. Thanks and I am so glad I found this site. This has been the answer to all my prayers.

    I can't find a tool for my usb flash drive which was originaly used to restore a hp netbook windows 8 OS.

    When i plug the usb flash drive on windows, it is displayed as a dvd drive with 16G capacity.

    I would like to flash this drive to use it as standard storage.

    my flash is not really corrupted ... when i insert it , it appears for less than a sec n disappear but it doesn't give a sound as if i disconnected it from my pc .. and it doesn't say that i need to format it :/
